Overview

Our aluminum diamond plate sheets are pressed aluminum sheets bearing a raised diamond pattern on one side. They are weather and corrosion-proof and easy to clean, as well as being skid-resistant. This makes them suitable for a wide variety of applications, indoors and outdoors. They are also called tread plates, checker plates, and/or durbar plates. Essentially, diamond plates are a type of metal sheet with raised diamonds as the pattern. The shine and raised diamond pattern are masculine, modern, and sharp-looking, instantly giving you a striking look.

Guidelines, Applications and Questions for the Different Thickness of Aluminum Diamond Plate

0.025” thickness aluminum diamond plate is a very unique material in comparison to the rest of the diamond plates. It’s thin, flexible, lightweight, easy to cut, easy to bend around corners, and provides a bright, low maintenance surface for walls or ceilings. The most important property is that it can be rolled-up and shipped in a box across the nation!

It’s great for :

  • cosmetic/decorative purpose
  • covering walls
  • back splash
  • fitness room/gym
  • garage
  • shelves or shelf front covering
  • displays

Aluminum is light, soft, and remarkable for its ability to resist corrosion. Most of aluminum diamond plates are made with 3003 aluminum alloys strengthened with Manganese.

Hot-rolled diamond plate materials are generally better than cold-rolled diamond plate because hot-rolled materials have a uniform microstructure with less defects and cracks.

Cold-rolled material have lots of micro-defects and cracks, resulting in the tendency to crack when bending. All of our products are hot-rolled for maximum product quality.

The best part of aluminum diamond plate is that you can cut it relatively easily.

For the 0.025” aluminum diamond plate, you can either use heavy duty scissors, tin snips, or a wood saw to cut it.

For the rest of the thicknesses (0.045” 0.063”,0.080”, 0.100”, 0.125”), generally a wood saw or metal saw will work fine with cutting.

You can easily drill through these aluminum diamond plates easily with regular drills

These materials are typically used for both industrial and domestic purposes due to their high strength, low cost, malleability, and machineability. In addition to being well-suited as a form of safe, resilient flooring, they are employed as a light construction material and sometimes for architectural applications.

As well as being a functional, non-slip surface, diamond plates have cosmetic applications due to its attractive appearance. Many companies use them as a tiled flooring material. Its mirror finish makes it perfect to add contrast or highlight other materials or items, including custom cars in show rooms.

Aluminum diamond plate is also known as checker plate, tread plate, and Durbar floor plate. Although it is often manufactured from aluminum, steel or stainless steel variants, depending on the specifications required.

Properties

Aluminum diamond plate has been specially formulated and manufactured to create an attractive, yet robust material suitable for a wide variety of applications. The raised diamond pattern on the sheets is formed by hot-rolling the aluminum. Embossed (recessed) diamond sheets are also available. Diamond plates can be polished to a highly reflective finish for applications that require a beautiful surface as well as a tough exterior.

The sheets are made from Aluminum 3003, which consists of aluminum alloyed with 1.2 percent manganese and traces of several other materials. This provides superior strength over pure aluminum, creating a more durable product that can still be cut and shaped effectively. The metal is strain-hardened and partially annealed (a form of treatment the improves malleability). The sheets gain their strength from cold-working alone and cannot be heat treated.

The result is that aluminum diamond plate sheets have good innate corrosion-resistance and moderate strength for their thickness. As well as being robust and lightweight, Aluminum 3003 is moisture and weather-resistant. The raised diamond pattern provides a high degree of slip-resistance despite the smooth, mirror finish which gives the product a reflective surface and unique decorative appearance.

Aluminum 3003 has a wide range of applications in chemical equipment, sheet metal work, cooking utensils, pressure vessels, garage doors, awning slats, storage and gasoline tanks, and a variety of drawn and spun components. In sheet form, a relatively low thickness nevertheless provides a high degree of rigidity, whilst remaining formable under the right circumstances.

Aluminum 3003’s excellent machinability means it can easily be cut, shaped, and finished, while remaining a durable and versatile material. It is straightforward to weld, drill, saw, shear and form, with little wear on tools. Diamond sheets can be cut down to the required size and shape with minimal effort, whilst the pre-formed diamond texture provides an attractive and anti-slip surface to the aluminum. This makes it popular as a flooring material, particularly where safety is an issue or where surfaces need to be resistant to dirt and moisture and easy to clean. Application

0.063″ diamond plate is suitable for the majority of all applications. Its diamond texture gives excellent anti-skid properties, and it is often used in industrial settings for stairways, catwalks, ramps, and walkways where wet conditions may otherwise pose a risk of sliding or falling. These non-slip properties also make it a common solution for ambulance floors and for the footplates of firetrucks, as well as domestic truck beds and trailer floors.

Diamond plate can also be used for wall panels, counter tops, tiling for other surfaces, and various architectural uses. Since it is easy to machine along with being robust and attractive, diamond plate tool boxes are another popular application. It is frequently employed to finish edges and corners of items made of other materials, where an extra element of wear-resistance is required. When fitting diamond plate in sheets or angles, care should be taken to select the right materials for fixing. Zinc-plated screws can be used, but aluminum rivets or other fixings may contribute to corrosion due to the differing electrolytic properties of the metals. If in doubt, seek advice and be sure to match materials appropriately to avoid long-term problems.

Where a higher degree of durability is required, 0.125″ or 0.25 (1/4″) diamond plate provides an extremely tough solution that retains the attractive, mirrored finish and non-slip diamond texture of the thinner 0.063-inch plate. This is harder to shape but can still be cut to order and machined using the right tools.

All thicknesses of diamond plate combine functional properties with aesthetic appeal and span practical and ornamental applications. The corrosion-resistant properties and weather-proof nature of the aluminum alloy used, means that maintaining the appearance and bright finish should be a simple. Maintenance is usually a case of brushing and wiping clean, though in many instances this will not be necessary at all.

    :

Made a mistake and ordered the 3 pieces with the dimensions. Even though it was shipped out before I learned about my mistake, they worked with me so I could get my plates as soon as possible.

These plates are high quality because they are hot rolled. Most places only sell cold rolled… This makes a big difference depending on your application.

    :

Great product. We bought a few of the thinnest plates and they arrived promptly. We also visited them in Ontario, CA and had them do some custom cuts with much thicker thickness.
We are in the fabrication business and these are really high quality plates, especially the fact that they are hot rolled (so we could bend them)

    Thanks again, Jason.

Received 3’ X 4’ diamond plate yesterday. Perfect. Fair prices, quality product, quick shipping. Why can’t all of the companies I order from be like Size Metal? Thanks!

    :

Looking to buy 10 36-48 plates and the quotes I got from other sites were a lot higher. It was hard to believe that they also offered a flat $199 shipping. Where do they even profit on this? Maybe a lower quality product?

Only way to know is to buy some. I went ahead and ordered and 5 days later (since I am on the east cost) received them.

I have to say that these are top quality plates. We specifically needed hot rolled versions as we had to bend a few. Also picked up a few of the outside corner guards and they look fantastic! Very Happy.
